Is Your Retirement Plan On Track?
Some days it’s hard to tell but overall, Americans are an optimistic people. But, when it comes to retirement security, many people have their doubts. When Kyle or I sit down with someone to meet with them for the first time, a few of the most common questions that we get asked are “Are we on track for our retirement?”, and “Is my retirement plan secure?” The most common concern? “Will we run out of money before we run out of time?”
We hear the same remarks and questions from both pre-retirees nearing retirement and for retirees who want to make sure their plan is going to work. Then there are those that retire with no plan. Gotta love ’em! They’re always the most interesting to work with… sometimes.
So, what about you? Are you on track and confident that your retirement will be successful?
In the most recent Retirement Confidence Survey from the Employee Benefit Research Institute, 24% of respondents said they were not at all confident of having enough money for a comfortable retirement. Another 36% were only somewhat confident. Add that up and around 60%, or the majority of Americans, are not sure they are on track for a successful retirement. So, some education is definitely needed here.
Proper retirement planning involves many factors, the first of which is your goals. You have to know what a successful retirement means to you. Once you know your goals or what type of retirement lifestyle you want or need, then it is a matter of finding out how to meet those goals and lifestyle decisions. This comes down to your assets and incomes being able to support and fund your expenses and desired lifestyle. There are several factors that you need to consider and address to figure this out.
As a retirement and income planner for the past 13 years, it has been a trip working with so many great folks, helping them to make certain all the puzzle pieces of their retirement, income and estate plan fit together.
Over three years ago, Jeremy and I released our first (and so far only… but another one is coming soon?) book called “Solving The Retirement Puzzle With Four Easy Pieces”. Many of you have a copy of the book and have read it. I recently had a client tell me that she just re-read the book and said it was so valuable to read again.
Still have the book? Maybe take a few hours to read again. Don’t have a copy of the book? You can either buy it on Amazon or shoot me back an e-mail and we’ll send a copy out to you… no charge. Oh… one last thing. If you really find the book valuable, go on Amazon and write us a five star review. A big thanks and a big Hershey bar will await you next time you visit the office.
